Jamie Iversen recently graduated from the Forest Resources Management program at UBC in May 2025. He is a registered forester-in-training in B.C. and hopes to become a registered professional forester (RPF) in the future.

Jamie’s past work experience as a wildland firefighter for BC Wildfire during his undergrad inspired him to begin his research into wildfire fuel treatments. His research looks into optimizing different types of potential fuel treatments using modeling. He hopes he can eventually work for a community forest doing fuel treatments and prescribed burns.

Originally from Ladner, BC, Jamie spends his free time hiking, camping, and being outside. He also enjoys sports, listening to classic rock, and watching movies.

May 2024

Rosalia (Rosie) Jaffray started as a MASc student in May 2024. She recently completed her undergrad in Forest Operations here at UBC and is registered as an Engineer-in-Training with EGBC and a Forester-in-Training.

Combining her interests in harvest planning and engineering with her love for big machines, Rosalia’s work broadly focuses on the application of operations research in forest operations and the use of forest operational decisions as a climate change mitigation strategy. Her master’s thesis is on the development and evaluation of an open-source tool for machine scheduling in forest operational planning. She is a dedicated teaching assistant in the Faculty of Forestry and active volunteer with Vancouver Coastal Health and Camp Engies.

Growing up in and around the Great Lakes in Ontario, Rosalia enjoys getting outside, fishing and being out on the water. She also enjoys hula hooping and solving sudoku puzzles.

Yunhao Xu is a M.A.Sc student studying in the FRESH Lab at UBC. With a forest operation background in undergraduate study, his research interest is focused on combining forest operation with innovative mathematical modelling framework. He got a B.Sc. in Faculty of Forestry at UBC in 2024. He was also a research assistant at MKRF in the spring of 2024, mainly working on the field data collection.

Moreover, with a passion for the intersection of the engineering and forestry, he is working on extra curriculums for the eligibility to register as a RPF in forestry to effectively solve the forestry problems using engineering methods.

Yunhao enjoys outdoor activities. He likes hiking and skiing with friends. He also enjoys reading books and watching movies during Vancouver’s raining season in his spare time.
